To the Point Tuesdays: 1 technique for 1 hour
Easy, fast skills to add to your repertoire. Each hour long session costs just $10
All times 5:30pm-6:30pm on dates outlined below unless otherwise specified.
August 31: Unknitting
Taught by Chris. Sometimes you have to tink back a few stitches, sometimes it's a few rows. This class will teach you how to unknit your work stitch by stitch, how to make sure they're seated right, and how to fix any that have fallen off and run down. We'll spend a few minutes on frogging (wholesale ripping out your work) and afterthought lifelines.
Homework: Using worsted weight yarn and size 6, 7, OR 8 needles, cast on 20 stitches. Knit 10 rows in stockinette.
September 14: Linen Stitch Scarf 3 ways
Taught by Susan. (NOTE: Time for this class is 5:30pm-7:00pm and costs $15.) The Linen Stitch Scarf pattern from Churchmouse Yarns went viral at Blazing Needles this summer! Worked from 3 colorways of Koigu yarn, each scarf was a work of art. In this class, you will learn how to knit a linen stitch scarf using three different techniques: (1) according to the pattern, as written (the fringe is created as you work the scarf); (2) in the round on a long circular needle (you will cut, or steek, the finished scarf to create the fringe); and (3) back and forth on a long circular needle (stitches will be dropped to create the fringe after the scarf is completed). Best of all, method #2 and #3 do not require any purling. Even if you have already completed one or more linen stitch scarves this summer, the class will give you construction options for your next one. Prerequisites: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, and bind off.
Homework: You must make two different swatches before the class. Leave both swatches on the needles as we will be knitting on them during the class. Swatch #1: Using a 16-inch circular needle and worsted weight yarn, cast on 88 stitches and join into the round. Knit 1 round. Swatch #2: Using a 24-inch circular needle and worsted weight yarn, cast on 45 stitches. Do not join into the round. Knit 1 row, then purl 1 row.
Materials needed: Pattern and 3 skeins of Koigu
September 14: Knit Backwards
Taught by Candace. Purl without purling? Learn the technique to knit back baxckwards that will make knitting a breeze. Knitting backwards eliminates having to constantly flip your knitting and can make projects like entrelac easier. Bring size 8 needles and some light colored worsted weight yarn.
Turkish Bed Socks
Extremely versatile, stylish, and quick, Turkish Bed Socks are a fun knit and great gift idea. They're knit up unlike any other sock pattern, too, keeping things interesting.
